Happy Monday friends! Can you believe it’s halfw

Happy Monday friends! Can you believe it’s halfway through October? Yes, that is a 🎃 in our bedroom. Pumpkins bring me joy so I have them all over the house haha. Bill hasn’t even noticed it sitting there yet 🥴🍂😂.

We got our power back on Friday night and we still have no internet. Our cell signal is sketchy in the house with the metal roof but I’m kinda liking not having all the noise.
.
Both hurricane Helene and Milton caused so much devastation. I’m still so heartbroken over all of the damage and lives that have been lost. Keep praying for them as they rebuild. 🧡

It’s day three from hurricane Milton. Still no p

It’s day three from hurricane Milton. Still no power. No water. We only suffered a lot of yard damage (thank the Lord). We hustled to get everything set up the best that we can while we wait to be restored. I went to our business and washed all the dishes that have been piling up in the sink. The front of our property/garden is a mess. Is it an inconvenience? Of course, but think about all of those who have lost their homes, like completely gone. Maybe they evacuated and don’t know what they are going to return to. Or maybe they’ve lost a loved one. I am fine being inconvenienced. The Amish live like this on a daily basis and don’t complain one bit. If you are struggling without modern technology due to the storm……go on a walk, talk to someone in person, read a book, play board games, work on a puzzle, find a new hobby, help a neighbor, etc. There are so many things we can be doing that doesn’t require
wi-fi, devices, texting or even power. ❤️

Things I am grateful for today:

Jesus
A hard working husband
Family/Friends
Our home, livestock and pets
Generators
Dude Wipes
A business that we own that’s only 5 minutes from our home (I was able to brush my teeth and wash my face really good)
Solar Power Charging Banks
Off grid lighting/Flashlights/Candles
Open Windows and Fall (cooler) weather
Gas Oven/Cooktop
Food Preparation
Sun

If disasters and emergencies have taught us one thing, it’s that we are not to rely on anyone. Love and help one another but work hard yourself.

Here in Florida, I always stay prepared, especially during hurricane season. It’s a good idea to go ahead and grind some flour in case your power would go out.
.
You can either keep it in the freezer (if you have a generator) or place the bag in a cooler with ice. It will last up to 2 weeks without losing any of the nutrients.
.
Also, you can easily bake your bread over a fire in a Dutch oven, after the storm has passed. Stay safe friends!

The calm before the storm. Tomorrow morning, Bill and I will be pulling everything off the porch and storing it all in the garage for the next day or so. It’s so peaceful right now. Always is before these storms appear.

I’ve lived here in Florida for 38 years so over time, I’ve just become used to hurricanes. Everyone is asking me why I’m so calm or why we aren’t leaving. We live 2 hours from both coasts and we weren’t told to evacuate. If I lived on the coast, I definitely would be evacuating. I’m not that crazy haha.
.
This hurricane is different though. We haven’t had something like this one in a long while. It’s going to be bad but I have a sense of peace and calmness in me. Weird, I can’t explain it. I know we are going to be ok, no matter what. I’m praying and trusting.
.
Stay safe everyone. Listen to the warning but don’t get caught up into fear and panic. You will be ok. Just seek him. ❤️

It’s been less than 2 weeks from Hurricane Helene and we now have another one named “Milton” heading straight to pretty much the entire state of Florida 🤦🏼‍♀️.

I wait all year long to go to @renningersmountdorafl for their “Fall in the Field” event. I’ve been going to this for like 13 years and always look forward to seeing Ms. Julie from Hites Heirlooms. They drive down here all the way from Ohio.

They have the prettiest pumpkins and grow every one of them. 🎃 Take a look ⬅️………

I really didn’t feel like decorating my porch this year with all the devasatation from #hurricanehelene. The ones affected either lost their homes or have no power. I’m not physically able to go up and help but I have been assisting in other ways. The photos/videos are still just horrific.

I went ahead and went today because I wanted to support this sweet family plus pumpkins bring me joy 🧡. How are you processing everything from the hurricane?

Here we go again….Living in Florida for so long,

Here we go again….Living in Florida for so long, I’ve learned to stay prepared for these hurricanes. I’m just one of these that likes to be organized and not panic haha. We live in the North Central part of the state so we never are a direct impact, however, we do get outer-bands of storms plus there’s always a possibility of a tornado hitting. Here are some of my tips that keep me sane 🥴 while leading up to and during these storms. If you are in the direct path, please evacuate accordingly or take shelter where you know you will be safe.

1. I buy in bulk. This keeps me prepared not only in storms but year round. There’s always those days that I’ve had a long work day and have no idea what to fix for a meal. I can usually whip something up pretty quickly.
2. I have a garden (obvious with the photo 🤣lol). I try to grow as much as I can or support a local farmer. I also can some of our food for longer shelf life.
3. I bought an emergency radio years ago and have that at easy reach. I also have re-chargeable light bulbs, batteries, candles, etc. on hand.
4. Leading up to the storm, I always wash all the linens on the bed and any laundry that’s piled up. That way we have fresh clean items in case the power goes out 🤦🏼‍♀️. I also take a shower the night before just in case we can’t for a while haha. 😜
5. We have 3-4 generators on hand with fuel at all times. A whole house generator is a little expensive, so that one, we are saving up for. These portable ones will work just fine for the time being.
6. If you are building a new home or changing out your appliances, I highly recommend getting a gas oven and range. I love mine!!I can cook in the oven and the stove top, if needed. I also make sure our propane tank has enough fuel in it. Check your outdoor grills to make sure you have propane too. (more in comments)
