I’m a proud grandma (still feels weird to call myself that) of an adorable little girl named Scarlett. My son and daughter—in-law have been busy the past few months working on their Vintage Baby Girl Nursery. It’s precious and I can’t wait to show it to you.

What is a Vintage Nursery?
Creating a vintage baby nursery involves blending nostalgic, antique-inspired elements with a cozy, slightly dramatic ambiance. The goal is to craft a space that feels timeless, warm, and serene while maintaining a safe and functional environment for a baby.
Choose Moody Colors
- Base Colors: Opt for muted, rich tones like deep sage green, dusty rose, or warm taupe.
- Accents: Add vintage-inspired accents in colors like antique gold for warmth and contrast.
- Neutrals: Incorporate creamy ivory, soft beige, or a light pink to balance the moodiness and keep the space feeling soft for a nursery.
Paint Colors For a Vintage Baby Girl Nursery
The color used in my granddaughter’s room is Sherwin Williams SW Socialite 6025. It’s a moody deep rose that fits the room perfectly. Paint the walls, baseboards and doors the same color. You can even paint the ceiling the same to give it an extra vintage moody vibe. Don’t forget the door/switch plates: opt for gold plates for all of the electrical outlets and gold crystal door knobs.

Select Vintage Inspired Furniture
- Crib: Choose a crib with classic lines, such as a wrought iron or distressed wood design. Look for one in a dark walnut, black, or antique gold finish to match the vintage aesthetic. Scarlett’s crib was found on Facebook Marketplace.
- Dresser/Changing Table: Opt for a repurposed antique dresser or a piece with carved details and vintage hardware (e.g., brass knobs). Ensure it’s sturdy and safe for a changing pad.
- Rocking Chair or Glider: Pick an upholstered chair in a plush fabric like velvet or linen in a moody hue (e.g., emerald green or rose pink). Add a textured throw blanket or pillow for extra coziness. Maddy paid $20 for the chair below. We couldn’t believe how it matched with the walls so well.

Textures and Fabrics
- Rugs: Lay down a Persian-style or faded floral rug in muted tones to add warmth and a vintage touch. Ensure it’s soft and non-slip for safety. We love the rug in Scarlett’s room! It’s soft, comfortable and pet friendly. Just throw it in the washing machine to clean it. It comes in a variety of patterns and affordable sizes.
- Curtains: Use heavy, floor-length drapes in velvet, linen, or cotton with subtle solids and patterns. Darker shades like navy or sage/olive enhance the moody vibe while blocking light for naps. A gold curtain rod will complete the look.
- Bedding: Choose crib bedding in soft, organic cotton or muslin with vintage-inspired prints like solids or small florals. Stick to neutral or muted tones to maintain the vintage style.
- Walls: Consider an accent wall with peel-and-stick wallpaper featuring botanical prints, damask patterns, or subtle vintage florals. Using bead board adds a classic feel along with this adorable scalloped trim to finish it off.

Add Vintage Decor
- Wall Art: Hang framed vintage illustrations, such as botanical canvas prints or antique storybook pages. Use mismatched frames in gold, brass, or distressed wood for an eclectic look.
- Lighting: Install a chandelier or pendant light with an antique brass or crystal finish for elegance. Add a table lamp with a ceramic or glass base and a fabric shade for soft, ambient light.
- Accessories: Incorporate vintage items like an old-fashioned mobile with felt or wooden animals, a tarnished silver mirror, or a vintage suitcase for storage. Display a few classic children’s books on a shelf.

Create a Functional Space
- Storage: Use wicker baskets, vintage trunks, or wooden crates for stylish toy and blanket storage. A low bookshelf with rounded edges can double as decor and storage.
- Safety: Anchor all furniture to the wall to prevent tipping. Keep cords out of reach, and ensure decor items are securely placed away from the crib.
Budget Friendly Tips
DIY: Distress a thrifted dresser with chalk paint or create your own wall art by framing vintage book pages.
Repurpose: Use an old ladder as a blanket rack or mason jars as storage for small items.
Shop Secondhand: Check thrift stores, estate sales, or online platforms like Facebook Marketplace for affordable vintage finds.
Minimalism: Focus on a few high-impact pieces (e.g., a statement crib or rug) to keep costs down while achieving the vintage look.
Safety Reminders
Ensure all paint and finishes are non-toxic and baby-safe.
- Avoid heavy decor above the crib that could fall.
- Use cordless window treatments or secure cords out of reach.
- Check that all vintage furniture meets current safety standards (e.g., crib slat spacing should be no more than 2 3/8 inches apart).
