A DIY wall hanging flower basket is a stylish way to add floral displays to your indoor or outdoor spaces. It’s a great way to save money and just do-it-yourself. They’re ideal for creating eye-level arrangements on walls, fences, porches, or balconies, especially in areas with limited space.

Materials Needed
Woven Basket: Seagrass is perfect for year round charm. Make sure it has a handle on the back of it.
Flowers: Use live plants, faux or dried flowers in a variety of colors.
Greenery: Use fresh or cut off greenery from your faux flowers and tuck them in the basket as fillers.
Ribbon: I love using cotton fabric to tie around my basket. Leave the ties long, giving the entire basket extra coziness.
Adornments:Small signs and flags are great fillers to cover up bare spots or just for extra prettiness.

How to Make a DIY Wall Hanging Flower Basket
1. Choose Your Basket
• Pick a basket with a flat back for easy wall mounting. Make sure it has a handle on the back of it for extra support while hanging.
• Ensure it’s deep enough to hold soil or floral foam.
2. Line the Basket (for real plants)
• Use a coconut coir liner to hold soil and retain moisture.
• Add a small plastic liner with drainage holes if needed.
3. Mount the Basket
• Attach a hook or nail to your wall where you want the basket to hang.
• Hang the basket from the hook on the backside.
4. Add Potting Mix & Plants (if using real flowers)
• Fill with potting mix.
• Add flowers like petunias, begonias, ivy, or herbs.

Add Faux or Dried Flowers
5. Insert floral foam inside (optional)
Arrange faux or dried flowers creatively.
6. Decorate the Basket
Wrap twine or ribbon around the rim. My ribbon started to curl because it’s so hot here already. It will be straight during the rest of the year haha.
Add small signs, butterflies, or flags for flair.

Watering/Care Tip
Live Plants – Water gently and regularly. Be careful not to get the basket wet as it will warp and possibly get moldy. Choose shade- or sun-loving plants depending on the wall location.
Faux Flowers – Fluff them up as needed. I also pull mine out and hose them off, especially during the summer months. The mosquitoes here are bad right by our front door.
Change the Wall Hanging Flower Basket Seasonly
This wall hanging flower basket can be used all year long. Here’s some ideas on how you can decorate it for holidays:
- Winter – fresh cedar/greenery clippings either from your own yard or a local nursery. Tie a pretty brown ribbon around the rim.
- Spring – put yellow, green and white flowers (faux or live plants) along with bunnies, chicks or a little cross. A pastel ribbon would be pretty.
- Summer – use red and white geraniums (I’d use faux), some fern clippings and greenery. A cotton red striped ribbon would be festive. Place a small flag as a filler to tie it all together.
- Fall – mums, fall colored leaves and some greenery would be perfect for this time of year. You can also add little pumpkins and a turkey for Thanksgiving.
- Christmas – this isn’t a season but a much celebrated holiday. Use poinsettias, holly, cedar/evergreen clippings and wrap a pretty bow around the rim.
