Indoor Decor Ideas
1. American Flags: Incorporate small or medium-sized flags into vignettes. Place them in vintage jars, or vases for a subtle touch. Grouping two or three flags adds charm without overwhelming the space. Here are some ideas (each photo is a clickable link):

2. Tablescapes: Create a patriotic centerpiece using everyday items like a trifle bowl filled with sand, shells, a red candle, and mini flags. Pair with a red, white, and blue table runner or use dollar store scarves as runners. Fold red and blue napkins together with sparklers for a festive dining table.
3. Throw Pillows and Blankets: Add red, white, and blue throw pillows or flag-patterned pillow covers to couches and chairs. Drape a patriotic throw or quilt over furniture for an instant update. These can be swapped out easily after the season. Here’s some ideas (each photo is a clickable link):

4. Floral Accents: Use red, white, or blue faux flowers like roses, sunflowers, or wildflowers in vases. Blue Hydrangea flowers are especially striking for a patriotic look. Consider reusable faux flowers for cost savings over time.
5. DIY Crafts: Make paper chains, garlands, or banners using red, white, and blue materials. For example, create a garland from fabric strips or paper bag stars for a rustic touch.

6. Vintage Touches: Incorporate vintage Americana items like old books in patriotic colors, retro signage, or thrifted trinkets (e.g., vintage pewter cups). Display on shelves or mantels for a nostalgic vibe.
7. Mantel Decor: Layer neutral decor with red, white, and blue accents like ribbons, pewter, or small flags. Add a DIY wreath or personalized signs for a custom look.
Outdoor Porch Ideas
1. Front Porch: Add bunting or flag banners to railings, porch or doors. Tuck small stick flags into planters or line walkways with patriotic pinwheels for a quick, cheerful effect. Use red, white, and blue pillow covers on porch furniture.
2. Hanging Decor: Hang red, white, and blue metal stars or lanterns on fences, walls, or porches. A door basket with red geraniums or faux flowers adds instant curb appeal.
3. Yard Accents: Scatter mini flags or pinwheels in flower beds or along pathways. For a bold statement, hang flags on a clothesline or deck railing. Kids can help place these for a fun family activity.
4. Patio Tables: Create a simple centerpiece with foraged greenery, branches, or flowers in a pitcher, accented with mini flags. Add a flag-patterned pillow or blue throw quilt to seating areas. Here’s some ideas (each photo is a clickable link):

Garden Ideas
- Hang flag bunting on your fence or gate at the entrance of your garden.
- If you have a greenhouse or chicken coop in the garden, hang some patriotic banners over windows or above the door.
- Grow your own sunflowers! Cut them and bring them inside. I love putting them in mason jars or vintage vases.

Budget-Friendly Tips
• Shop Your Home: Use existing red, white, or blue items like books, vases, or linens to create vignettes.
• Thrift and DIY: Visit thrift stores for vintage Americana or repurpose items like colanders, enamelware or glassware into centerpieces. DIY projects like wooden firecrackers or fabric rag flag garland add charm without breaking the bank.
• Reusable Decor: Invest in durable items like faux flowers or pillow covers that can be stored and reused yearly. I buy a standard pillow form in a 18×18 size and just add covers seasonly. Take up less storage instead of having like 20 pillows for all the holidays. Store seasonal decor in labeled bins for easy access.
• Free Printables: Use free patriotic printables for banners or wall art to add quick, cost-free flair. Just type in Google, “ Free Patriotic Printables”.

Styling Tips
Keep It Simple: Subtle touches like a single flag or a red ribbon can be impactful without overwhelming.
Mix Textures: Combine wood, metal, fabric, and greenery for a rustic or farmhouse look.
Respect the Flag: Follow the US Flag Code for actual flags, ensuring they’re hoisted properly and don’t touch the ground. Use flag-inspired decor like bunting or pennants for flexibility.

How To Display the American Flag
There is proper etiquette that we must follow when displaying the flag, both indoor and outdoor. Displaying the American Flag in a respectful manner is an important factor in honoring its symbolism. There are several situations to keep in mind when hanging your Flag. Head to the National Flag Foundation for all things etiquette of the American Flag.
Wall Display
When hanging the Flag against a wall, vertically or horizontally, the Flag’s union (stars) should be at the top, to the Flag’s own right and the observer’s left.
Hanging Outside
When the American Flag is hung over a street, it should be hung vertically, with the union to the north or east. If the Flag is suspended over a sidewalk, the Flag’s union should be farthest from the home/building.

These ideas can be adapted to any home style, from farmhouse to cottage to coastal, and most can be set up in minutes. I hope you found this helpful! Tag me over on Instagram. I’d love to see how you decorate and show off your American spirit. Enjoy decorating for a festive, patriotic summer!
