Summertime is all about salads for me. I love the fresh ingredients and the crunch from the garden. It’s such a great way to use up all those tomatoes you are growing. Even if you aren’t growing your own tomatoes or basil, I’m sure you can find these readily at your local farmer’s market. Caprese Salad Recipe is perfect all by itself or serve it alongside any summertime meal. If you are heading to a bbq, take this as a side dish and watch it disappear.

What Is In Caprese Salad Recipe?
Caprese Salad has just a few ingredients. Mostly, you’ll find this dish at Italian restaurants. I’ve seen this wonderful refreshing dish on menus as an appetizer and main dishes. I’m not sure if it’s truly an authentic Italian dish but I enjoy eating it quite often.
The basic ingredients are fresh tomatoes, basil, mozzarella and usually drizzles with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. I also add just the right amount of salt and pepper. Accordingly, I’ll add fresh sliced cucumbers to mine as well. I’ve also made this into a meal and add grilled chicken on top.

I love having fresh herbs in the garden pretty much year round. They are so easy to grow and who doesn’t love basil, especially in this Caprese Salad Recipe.

Garden Fresh Caprese Salad Recipe
Ingredients
- 12-14 Campari or Roma Tomatoes
- 16 oz. Fresh Sliced Mozarella
- 2-3 tbsp. Olive Oil
- 1-2 tbsp. Balsamic Vinegar
- Salt and Pepper (to taste)
- 1 tbsp. Fresh Chopped Basil
Instructions
- Slice the tomatoes and lay them in a serving dish.
- Next, layer the sliced mozzarella on top of the tomatoes.
- Combine the olive oil, vinegar, salt and pepper. Whisk together in a jar, like a dressing.
- Pour the dressing on top of the tomatoes and mozzarella.
- Top with the basil and chill in the fridge for a few hours to allow the flavors to meld together.
- When ready to serve, toss like a salad.
Notes
- Add sliced cucumbers for extra crunch or avocados for some good fats.
- Adjust the oil and vinegar to your liking. The dressing shouldn’t make this soupy so use more or less of each, if needed.
- You can also add grilled chicken and make it a great protein meal.
- Mince some garlic cloves or add Italian seasoning to the dressing for extra flavor.
- This is a great dish to use up all those cherry tomatoes from your garden. Just slice them in half and layer them as you would the larger tomatoes.
