Anytime there is a gathering, I have been asked to bring my Hot Bacon Dip. I usually make a big pan of it. I kid you not, it will disappear in a matter of minutes. I’m famous for bringing wherever I go haha. I’m so excited to share the recipe with you! It’s perfect for game days, holidays, or pretty much anytime.

How To Make Hot Bacon Dip
The Ingredients
This is the easiest, most delicious and addicting appetizer you will ever want to make. It has only four simple ingredients. I love it served with crackers or chips. It even goes great dipped with a slice of a French Baguette Bread.
- Cream Cheese
- Sour Cream
- Grated Cheddar Cheese
- Bacon
Directions
- Cook the bacon. I like to bake my bacon in the oven.
- Take the cream cheese and mash it up in a bowl.
- Add the sour cream and stir well.
- Now, grate a block of cheddar cheese.
- Once the bacon is done, add the cream cheese/sour cream mixture to your iron skillet. Stir it together with the bacon.
- Sprinkle a generous helping of the cheddar cheese on top.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. The cheese should be nice and bubbly.
- Serve with your favorite crackers or chips.

Why Grate Your Own Cheese?
Grating your own cheese as opposed to buying bagged cheese, has a few benefits. Sure, it’s more convenient just to buy the bag but it comes with some not so wanted ingredients. Let’s discuss below.
Block Cheese
Block cheese is a much better quality cheese. It doesn’t have anti-caking agents in it like bagged cheese. However, block cheese does have rennet in it and depending on what form you get, it could pose a problem. Rennet is an enzyme that breaks down the curds and whey and forms the cheese. It comes in both animal and vegetable types.
Animal rennet comes from un-weened mammal stomachs, usually from a cow (calf). Vegetable rennet can be anything really. It’s man made. Unfortunately, cheese companies do not have to disclose what type of rennet they use.
I personally love buying raw cheeses. I find them from farmers, local markets and Azure Standard.
Bagged Shredded Cheese
Bagged cheese is something I stopped buying around 20 years ago. I learned that it has preservatives in the bag to keep the cheese fresh. Have you ever noticed a white film on the cheese? That’s it. According to Foodadditives.net, Natamycin is a natural antimycotic ingredient. It is produced by controlled fermentation of Streptomyces natalensis, which is commonly found in soil, and other relevant species. It then goes through the manufacturing process of extraction, crystallization, and drying. They further go on to say that it’s “generally considered safe to consume”. I’m not ok with that. I want a product to say “it’s safe” not generally safe. You can read more about Natamycin here on foodadditives.net.

Hot Bacon Dip Variations
If you like a little heat, feel free to add jalapenos or hot sauce to the mix. You can also add some fresh garlic or top it with chives from your garden! Hot Bacon Dip is great just as it is, but feel free to add whatever you like.
